Enjoying a golden run having scored five tons in less than six months, Rahul Dravid on Monday gave credit to team coach Duncan Fletcher for his tips which have proved to be invaluable. "I worked with Duncan (Fletcher) a little bit. He has suggested a few things which are helping. He can read the game quite well. It's good to have him around. He suggested a couple of things which are helping," Dravid, who is now the highest run-getter in Tests in 2011 after slamming his 36th Test ton, said at the day end media conference.
Rahul Dravid on Monday reached a commendable milestone of becoming the highest run-scorer in the current year surpassing England's Ian Bell. Dravid now has 952 runs in 10 Tests in the current year surpassing Bell's 950 runs from eight matches. The senior batsman was out for 119 bowled by part-time spinner Kraigg Brathwaite after being involved in a 140-run fourth wicket partnership.
West Indies on Sunday received a setback when strike bowler Ravi Rampaul was hospitalised after suffering from stomach bug, which could pave the way for off-spinner Shane Shillingford for the second Test against India, beginning on Monday. The pacer had turned up for the afternoon practice but, after reporting of upset stomach, he had to be diagnosed further, the West Indies local manager said.
West Indies captain Darren Sammy said his batsmen have to find a way to score against Indian spinners for the team to have any chance of doing well in the ongoing three-Test series, the first of which the visitors lost in four days. Indian spinners R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha shared 16 wickets between them while conceding 237 runs in the match and Sammy said his side will have to play the slow bowlers better. "220-odd runs and 16 wickets (by Indian spinners). We need to find a way to score against spin," Sammy said at the post-match press conference after the five-wicket loss.
